Taalib-din Nashid Mahdi, age 59, of Tyler, Texas, transitioned on Thursday, May 4, 2006. He was born on February 24, 1947 as Willie Maurice Beck, son of the late Govie Beck and Aneesah Raheem (Willie Hugh) Beck.
A 1965 graduate of Emmett J. Scott High School, he continued his education by earning numerous degrees and certifications from the University of North Texas including a Bachelors Degree in Sociology, a Masters Degree In Sociology (MS), and multiple certifications in Cultural Diversity and Affirmative Action. He was also in the process of achieving a Ph.D. in Multi-Cultural Studies.
At the age of 20 he joined the Nation of Islam and converted to an Orthodox Muslim in 1976. He was a former member Masjid Hasaan in Fort Worth, Texas and is an active member of the NAACP.
Taalib-din has gained some very close friends and colleagues from past employments, among them, are the Dallas Post Office, H.E.R.E Union and Boeing (where he's been employed for the past 16 years).
Throughout his life, he had the privilege of serving in many leadership roles. His most cherished leadership roles included serving as Imam of Masjid Hasaan, Research Analyst at Boeing and Investigator on Equal Employment/Affirmative Actions at Boeing. He developed a survey for Employment Discrimination for the NAACP and is a member of the American Sociological Association. Taalib-din also was instrumental in orchestrating a corporate union between Kochman Mavrelis Associates, Inc. (KMA) and Boeing. Because of his persistent efforts to make changes in the Boeing, Irving plant infrastructure he was able to enlist the support of key people to have the entire group of Boeing, Irving managers go through the KMA training on the "Effective Management of Cultural Diversity", which has had a dramatic impact not only on the employees of Boeing, but on the staff of Kochman Mavrelis Associates, Inc. as well.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and grandparents.
